Stratton Spring

Drinking Water Advisory

The Mineral Springs waters are routinely tested for water quality and safety. This font, which is supplied by the Stratton Spring, has a manganese concentration of 0.40 mg/L, which exceeds the 0.3 mg/L lifetime exposure for adults and short-term exposure in children for manganese (Mn) as established by a Health Advisory Limit (HAL) adopted by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA). Based on the EPA health advisory, potential risks of consuming manganese above the HAL include:

  • Too much manganese may increase the risk of health problems, particularly for infants under 6 months old. Infants with continuous short-term exposure to manganese over 0.3 mg/L may experience learning or behavioral issues.
  • Adults drinking water with high levels of manganese could experience impacts on their nervous system. Adults with lifetime exposure to manganese over 0.3 mg/L may experience neurological effects that may be without symptoms now but may cause neurological impacts in the future.

The Mineral Springs Foundation issued this water advisory to ensure all potential consumers of this water are aware of the mineral content. The HAL concentration limit of 0.3 mg/L for adults is based on daily consumption of 2 liters and 1 liter per day for children. The Mineral Spring’s waters are intended to be a novelty source of drinking water, not a primary source. If you have specific health-related concerns or questions, consult your medical provider.

The Mineral Springs are based on the rich natural mineral content. State nor federal regulations currently regulate manganese. The Mineral Springs Foundation is not required to, nor does it treat its sources to remove manganese. The Mineral Springs Foundation has developed extensive educational materials on the Mineral Spring’s water’s origins, history, and quality.
